Re: Just sneaking in...

From Newtonmore, the Drumochter Munros are nice and close too. I can recommend them all - the Eastern solo and twin are good and easier than the Western round - although the western hills can be split into pairs easily.

Re: Hello, still alive.....just

Well done on the Cairnwell trip - I suspect doing a pair of the hills on the "other" side would be a lot easier...

And I too love the Braemar (and Ballater) mountain shops - can never go through without rummaging, and spending too much!

Re: Just sneaking in...

CAmp at the Loch Morlich site?
Youth Hostel right opposite?
Otherwise I suspect you're really looking at more expensive stuff either near Aviemore, or perhaps the chalets at Loch Insch, although there are some lovely cottages to rent on the North side of CNP.

Oh Good Grief! Hill runners make me green with envy - I struggle to maintain sufficient head of steam to walk up hills without stopping, let alone contemplate running!

Re: MOUNTAIN CLEAN UP THIS SUNDAY

Ahhhh sorry - a little more notice and I might have produced a family of pickers, but we've got Sunday sorted...we tend to collect loose wrappers and such on route anyway. We'll admire your good work in three weeks time - when quite a few of us will be converging on Cairngorm for Bio-mans epic 4000e...

Re: Devil's Ridge and Sgurr a'Mhaim

I remember the high scree descent fondly - as you say, a bit like skiing - it definitely helps you off. The less said about the rest, the better - my knee started playing up, and wifie had a miserable descent - she was almost 40 minutes behind me and daughter by the time we finished - although of co...

Re: My Sons 1st Munro

Congratulations!

My daughter was the same at that age - need cajoling to get up, but once the top's in sight there's no holding her back. Never has a shortage of energy on the way back down either.

Re: Odd chicken/large bird-type near Braemar

I parked the 'van up at the lecht car park last year - in lek season - and the males were everywhere, within yards of the car park, calling and jumping, and doing their best "come hither" dances. They kept at it while there was any light in the sky - so basically all night. The noise was i...

These sound quite close to my homemade Oat Flapjacks - never taken them on the hills but thinking about it I'm not sure why not.

Saturday 30 May - Sunny Highlands :D

I've got a solo pass valid for this Saturday only (eveyone else, apart from the dog, is doing something)... I'm planning to get out and about, and preferably up high. Weather outlook is promising - anyone else at a loose end and fancy joining me for an amble? Before I thought about posting here was ...

Re: Energy for a day in the Mountains

I do enjoy starting a hill day with a bacon and egg roll... and much tho' I love porridge, only in the winter please! I also tend to have a Tea followed by a coffee in the mornings - in big quantities - so I start well hydrated. On the hill my preferences get over-ruled by a peanut allergy in the fa...

Re: Best way to get over a muscle injury?

RICE - Rest Ice Compression Elevation is the usual advice for any strain injury. One reason I always carry a compression bandage - get in early with the compression. For ankles and knees best to try for a 100% rest until fully healed as any repeat puts you right back to the start - as I get older, I...
