Re: Wasdale Horseshoe 12: Yewbarrow to Scafell - & clear sky

Funny you should say that it's good training for the Cuillin Ridge, because that's exactly what it was intended to be!!! I'm planning to do the Ridge again this year as soon as there's a high over Skye! So you could whisper a little prayer for me.... Hmm - that's what I've been getting fitter for a...

Re: Squelching round the Dodds

Another excellent report on route I'm looking at! Looking to string Clough head and Hart Side together to finish off the northern end of the ridge. Useful info on the soggy Hart Side route this time.

Re: Wasdale Horseshoe 12: Yewbarrow to Scafell - & clear sky

Well done! I did the Woolpack Walk last year, had the excitement for Lords Rake to keep me going on the final up, another 500m to that on top of that would probably have killed me off. I am much fitter this year, might have to have a go one day (need to get to 214 first)!

A Bank Holiday stroll around Bath

A different report from the norm (almost an urban walk). Family commitments stopped me getting anywhere more interesting over the weekend - but I did spot the opportunity to join a local walking group on a circuit of Bath (C2C training for some of them). So thought I'd join them for a bit of trainin...

Re: What do you actually do with your handheld GPS?

Well there is the obvious use of looking at it to see where I am? Along with distance to next feature/junction in the path etc. Ensuring I don't wander off faint paths when in the cloud and if I do seeing if the path is on the left or right. Re-finding a nearby path in thick cloud is the one area wh...

Re: rucksac help

One thing I find with the Osprey is I can take all the weight on the waist strap and have the shoulder straps very loose - creating an nice big air gap.

Similar discussion on winter pack size here: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=48680 I have an Osprey Talon 22 and Deuter Futura 26 - the 22 is my preferred bag because of the light weight, the Deuter is very heavy (> twice) but built like the proverbial. In the the 26 I ...

It's a Marilyn and a Hewitt, which Mountainstar and Clivegif ticked off the Hewitt list.

No others guesses or is everyone away? I though it was quite distinctive - wider shot needed?
