Picos de Europa

This was a 20k hike from the Lakes of Covadonga (Asturias, Northern Spain) to Cain, a village at the other side of some of the highest mountains in the Picos de Europa. The night before we set off we stayed in a hotel next to the huge catholic Basilica set in the forest and the Holy Cave of Covadong...

Re: Robbing the US on Derry Cairngorm & Blown up Beinn Mhead

Good effort. I attempted a similar route last year in winds of up to 100mph. I'm afraid to say I bottled it after about 20 minutes - having been blown over twice - and spent most of the weekend in the car :(

If only I lived only 50 miles away - I might have done it by now!

Re: Dolomites

Cheers for the comments! Steve - I didn't see any remaining items from the war - I guess they must have all been collected up by now. It is incredible to think that people were in combat in that environment, especially during the winter months (although I'm sure it was equally horrific elsewhere). T...

Re: Assynt & the West Coast.

Awesome. I was up there last week, my first time that far North. This area is amazing. We did An Teallach and saw 2 people in 8 hours, both of them miles away. Also went up Stac Pollaidh and nearly got blown off the top but had incredible views and wild camped on one of the beaches afterwards. Very ...

Re: Tent advice please

I have a Banshee 200. I wouldn't want anything smaller (I can't stand those coffin tents), but you can get your stuff in and you can cook easily in the porch, both of which are important given the weather on your average Munro :D I like Vango, generally their stuff seems well designed and good quali...

Dolomites

A five day trek through the Dolomites Tre Cime (three peaks) national park, culminating in a via ferrata up Mount Paterno (2744m). We stayed in 'huts' every night, although these were not crumbling shacks with holes in the roof as the name might suggest, but large, modern buildings with comfortable ...

An Teallach

our_route.gpx Steady start: SNV30820.JPG ...then steeper and no path after 1hr, but easy enough to climb to the top of the first peak (900m +/-). Re: Glen Shiel Route?

OK. Seems I got a bit confused about where and what exactly the brothers were, but bascially i'll start at shiel bridge and go clockwise. Thanks :D

Glen Shiel Route?

I'm planning a 2-3 day ridge trip around glen shiel. I was wondering if I should start at Shiel Bridge and go down the East 'sisters' side to Cluanie, and then back up the west 'brothers' side to return to shiel bridge.....or start at cluanie....or go anti-clockwise? Or perhaps it doesn't matter? :D

Probably the hardest part of the walk - the limestone pavement near the end. It's like a giant, chaotic cattle grid.
