Re: Traverse of the Brenta

A fine, interesting tour. :) although, I guess, scanned from the Diapositives still fine images. The "all colours turned up to 11" photos are Past my sell by date's signature look. I guess it's from a UV filter. Incredible photos though, especially the one inside the Bergschrund. Gr...

Re: Hardergrat/Brienzergrat: Not the World's most dangerous

Great walk and pics. It must be limestone and I guess in the Summer would be a mass of flowers Yes, limestone. These are actually the pre-alps and are very heavily covered in grass, even on the extremely steep slopes covered in snow on this ridge. What an astounding ridge - how have I never heard o...

Re: Abandoned (intentionally) on Red Screes

I felt very unstable and was a bit worried as I'd be descending this on my own Wow, this long covid thing really is the gift that keeps on giving isn't it :(. I knew people have problems with tiredness and shortness of breath, but had no idea about feeling unsteady as well. Has there been any impro...

Re: Hen Comb from the West, via Gavel Fell

Nice  . Interesting to see the possible work to build a path over the bogs south of Hen Comb. As you say, it's not exactly a popular route, but it's such a horrible swampy mess that a proper path like the one on High Tove would be welcome.

Re: Hardergrat/Brienzergrat: Not the World's most dangerous

Thanks. If it had gone over the edge I would have had little choice but to find a find down to get it :(. I've been much more careful with jackets ever since

Re: When can you claim the Munro

I think it's an automated thing - it has me down as a "Mountaineer", which I'm certainly not. It happened when Paul added 'Stravaiging' to the list of activities, which caused the list to become muddled up. You can change it from the user control panel, although I quite like stravaiging (...

Re: When can you claim the Munro

I always wonder how many are on the list who haven't been to every summit!   I'll bet it's quite a few. My Munro count has gone down this year because I became convinced after reading other forumers' reports that I'd not been to the true summit of Ben Vorlich, only the trig po...

Hardergrat/Brienzergrat: Not the World's most dangerous hike

The town of Interlaken sits in between two lakes, the Thunnersee and the Brienzersee. Along the length of the Brienzersee, there is a ridge, extending from Harder Kulm in the West, to the Brienzer Rotthorn in the East. This is known as the 'Hardergrat', although in reality this name refers only to t...

Re: Arcteryx Beta AR hardshell replacement

the one on the Beta AR is overkill though, you could fit three helmets in there  I know what you mean! I have a Fjälräven Keb Eco Shell which is my preferred jacket (I also have an Arcteryx Beta SV). It's waterproof and windproof but the material is soft. Most other hardshells feel and sound l...

Avalanche close call

I narrowly avoided this avalache while descending a very minor peak in the East of Switzerland (Il Jalet). I'd stopped to look back at where I'd been and while admiring my deep tracks in the snow, an avalanche released from high above and passed about 20 m from where I was standing. It was fairly sm...
