Re: Magnificent Five in the sun

Photos now up, my son has read a couple of walks that you have posted up inc Ben Allder which is in our sights this year, what about the Fannichs in a day ? Thanks for the feedback, some of my reports are super short, really just additional tips because there are so many excellent reports up there. ...

A Ghlas Beinn without the Falls

After a shocking night in the tent at Moyles camp site in Glenelg (thanks to bringing the second dog) we were hardly up for anything and def not trying to get Fhada done with this one, the drop of 600m back to the fork in the path was a complete non starter despite the easy walk in. Weather started ...

Magnificent Five in the sun

What a wonderful day, the great weather continues and there seem to be fewer clegs in this area than other walks we've done i the last month or so. Move_2018_07_18_10_00_28_Trekking.gpx Parked at Lundie as per the normal start point for Carn Gluasaid. As per other reports, if you do the full five, y...

tick infested, long trousers and tick removers needed

Am putting this report up because of the headline. This is a great wee mountain but very tough if you look at the ascent and the horizontal, also 260m more vertical than the height of the Munro itself. We had been walking this whole week - Loch Lochy, Cluanie, Kintail - 9th Munro in four days but th...

More like two ronnies than four corries

Not an epic story with lots of photos but a caption to sum up a stonking day in the blistering heat in the Grey Corries. A few pointers - if you're doing Stob Ban then you have a choice of a rounder trip with not so much out and back. Or, you can bike into the Bothy and 80% of the ride out is freewh...

Clegs abound !

Not many mentions for 2018 so far so here's an up to date summary at start of July, we did this Sunday 1st July. 1) Not sure why the bike stand is where it is, it could easily be another 1.5km or so further on with limited damage if any to the landrover track. The first section after the gate is sha...

The mighty four conquered by 2 blokes and 2 dogs

Weather window continues to hold and, looking at car parks/verges on way to our chosen hills, lots of people out enjoying the bank holiday weekend and weather. Sadly the drive up Loch Lomond was a shocker at 30mph most of the way due to folks getting out of town ........ With an evening dinner and s...

Re: Best route up but not for dogs ! What a moon ...

Nice one, David. You certainly picked a very fine day for your walk. I did these at the end of November, and chose a rather obtuse route that involved hacking through forestry... . Your route certainly looks better, and the scrambling will have livened things up, no doubt :D . Good set of in...

Best route up but not for dogs ! What a moon ...

Well, had made a failed attempt at this ridge in October, with the family. Likely just as well as my wife and daughter would not have enjoyed all the little ups and downs etc. Weather window favourable and glad did not leave it a day later as unlikely we would have got such a great day. Plenty of wa...

Stag before Starav, windy as flink !

Move_2017_10_27_10_04_17_Trekking.gpx Summary, I am more wrecked today, the day after this walk, than I was doing the SGR (including The Saddle and Sgurr na Signe) or the Mamores (9 out of the 10) - and both of those are longer with more ascent. The wind was brutal, no other way to describe it. We ...

Short but tough, be prepared

Having done some very big walks I must say that this one packs a lot into 11km ! On the way to the Lost Valley we missed the burn crossing and went onto the scree slope, even more embarrassing that two groups followed us. We had followed another group as well. Lost 20mins or so and nice note to self...

Re: Half way on the A Team

Congratulations to you both. Not long past that 141 myself. Someone said it's all downhill from here on in :D I don't believe them. I reckon it's going to take a considerable time to maybe do the rest. Longer distances, over nighters and under stars will come into it a fair bit shortly. Yes, they a...

Beware Gannochy Bridge closed currently

Headed past Edzell, Gannochy Bridge closed 7am to 6pm for five weeks. This entails quite a big detour, back to A90, go up two more exits and get off at Edzell Woods and drive straight on until a t-junction then turn left and immediate right pretty much back at Gannochy Bridge ! And on way back to A9...

Half way on the A Team

Move_2017_07_16_10_02_52_Trekking.gpx Boy at 139, me on 140, decided to look for something reasonably short as weather outlook had not been brilliant and we had been brutalised on Carn Bhac the previous weekend .... Walk reports show a bike'n'hike was possible thereby shortening time. As it happens...

Carn Bhac on its own - summary

So, had done Ben Iutharn Mor with a couple of others from Spittal in Glenshee and was looking for a short Sunday bash including our 10 year old daughter. Usual drive up from Edinburgh to Braemar in 2hrs give or take. With two kids and two dogs an early start is impossible so we got going from Invere...
