Sore after six ! Part 2

OK, Part 2 after Carn non Fhidleir/An S yesterday as Part 1 Move_2017_07_05_08_41_15_Trekking.gpx Decent bite of food and good service at The Gathering (next to the Bothy/mountain gear shop). Several places shut as it was a Tuesday so that means I'll go back to this place as it caters seven days and...

Re: Mamores barbecue: 10 Munros & 7 tops on a very hot day

Hi Alteknacker, you may remember me from Ben Achalladair/Bridge of Orchy some weeks ago ... Cracking effort and the extra ascent and km by doing BM twice must have been a right pain, we only got 9 of the 10 done last summer. If it's hot up there you literally can't get enough water on board (ditto S...

Bike'n'hike for four. Shame about weather.

A good friend of ours recently passed his Mountain Leader exams and used to be a serious mountain biker so when he called at short notice suggesting Ben Avon plus BaB it was a fairly easy answer for me, the lad and the big dog. Packed up and headed for Braemar campsite late afternoon on the Sunday, ...

AE Ridge, the short way down

Cracking day today, good weather of last week holding, almost no wind. Left Edinburgh 6.45am, decided to try the new motorway it being a Sunday. Fantastic run through, got last parking space in upper car park at 8.45am. Set off onto hill at 8.50am. Really hard to add much to what others have written...

Re: An Orchy Round - 5 +2 + 3: a day of 2 contrasting halve

Hi Alteknacker That was me plus son and friend and dogs that you met, was indeed a nice interlude and you were the first person we met that day as well although we immediately bumped into another couple, from Manchester area. For those other readers out there, Alteknacker has his own version of Nais...

Finishing off Orchy in the sun

Firstly I hope that the gent from Wolverhampton completed his lengthy route taking in Beinn Mhanach and several other hills followed by his drive home; also that the couple from Manchester get another good day for Ben Oss and Dubhcraig. route2335558-beinn_ach.gpx So, not sure what the official dista...

Four folks, four bikes, two dogs in the sun

I'll find some photos to add but there are plenty up already and the route is straightforward. The one thing that I would add is if you can park at the end of the road past Glenmore Lodge then the distance and ascent is reduced as per the data on this report. There is only room for about five cars t...

Bikes in the snow

MWIS said 90% chance of cloud free tops and wind negligible impact. No rugby match for the boy so off we went. Late start due to various reasons, got to Old Bridge of Tilt Car Park at 10.45am. Not worried as light well past 4.30pm now ! Car park busy but not full, dog happy as the preverbial pig in ...

Sun and half frozen bog, happy days !

Weather outlook good, kids still off school, only one left in this range, added up to a smart idea assuming we could get out of the house en famille rather than just me and the boy plus a hound or two ... 7.45am departure became 8.10am, still not bad given we'd been sleeping past 8.30am throughout t...

Walk reports - order/priority

Just an observation or two for the site owner/managers - some of the older posts have more views/likes and that puts them up the list - I like to look for reports for the time of year/season but Apr-Sept reports tend to predominate which is fine for that seasons but requires work and effort for out ...

One in the mist beats two with too much risk ...

Move_2016_12_28_09_31_07_Trekking.gpx So, weather supposed to be settled, not too windy and there's not been too much snow/freezing weather recently, thought we might try the two in here using bikes to the dam above Badour coming back off Beinn H (or S depending on which book/map) back to that poin...

Another dry winter day nr Tyndrum

This winter has been nice since the bigger snowfalls 2-3 weeks' back. We did Stob Gabhar and its neighbour last weekend - dry, very little wind. The paths over there were icy in the base of the Glen then a fair bit of knee high snow further up. Since then we have had dry, warmer weather so with a de...

Mamores 9/10 ain't bad, dog breaks the ton !

Patiently waited all summer for a combo of weather, weekend or day off - Mamores have been on our radar screen for a few months. This week has been the best for many and I had Monday off so we rocked up to Glen Nevis Sunday night. Midges at almost acceptable level for a wee change :) We had decided ...
