Torridon walks in winter

Torridon walks in winter

Hi all! New to walkhighlands but have lurked for years!

I've got a week in torridon in late november. Going with my partner who doesn't have much winter walking experience. We won't be taking crampons/axes. Any suggestions for routes with Good aspects that can be done without winter gear?

Beinn Damh is an easy enough jaunt. I don't recall (although could be forgetting) any sort of technical issues with it. A lovely view as well.

You're spoiled for choice, really. Any of the 1-2-3-boot walks listed on here in the Torridon / Shieldaig / Kinlochewe section: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/torridon/torridon.shtml

The circuit around Lochs Coulin and Clair: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/torridon/Lochclair.shtml

Coire Mhic Fhearchair: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/torridon/coire-mhic-fhearchair.shtml

The Mountain Trail at Beinn Eighe (hands-on in one or two places): https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/torridon/Mountaintrail.shtml

A bit further afield, the Flowerdale Glen walk in Gairloch (https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/torridon/Flowerdale.shtml), or the walk around Loch Kernsary from Poolewe (https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/torridon/lochkernsary.shtml) -- be warned, this one can be a real mudpit on the loch side!

The low level walks mentioned by kmai are superb.

I'd add in walking up into Coire Lair from Glen Carron, and a walk along the coast at Diabeg. Perhaps also walking round the back of Liathach, though there's a fair road walk between the two ends.

If there is snow on the hills, you will need ice axe and crampons and the knowledge to use them, hence just recommending low level walks. Of course conditions may mean no snow or ice, in which case Beinn Damph would indeed be a fine choice for a fairly straightforward hill. Fionn Bheinn at Strathcarron is another, and the easiest Munro in the area.

If you are wanting to get on the hills, there are other places where the hills are a little more friendly which might be suitable even with a little snow.

Hard to know how much snow there might be, and you will need to play it by eye when you get there, but there’s a good chance that some sub-3000ft hills will be doable.
