Never been so excited to potentially go up Glas Maol.

It will probably rain.

Noooo!!!!

As a Highland resident I was hoping to get another couple of weeks in before the carnage. Ah well, it was nice whilst it lasted.

Excellent news. It also seems to be clear this time, travel within mainland Scotland is allowed for Hillwalking.

Any idea if overnight stays for wild camping are fully allowed?

BBC news report suggests not ".... will be permitted to travel across Scotland to do so, as long as they do not stay overnight."

As for wild camping, as has been said many times on here before, it won't even feature on their radar. We're allowed to do it now, I can't see how a lifting of restrictions affects that negatively.

General question! How are the conditions - pretty wintery still aren't they?

Not as cold as it was at the weekend, but we're still likely to see the odd cold spell at this time of year. I've been pretty much confined to the Galloways, and apart from the odd snow, conditions underfoot are very dry due to the cold north winds we've had, place was tinder dry at the weekend.

My reliable sources tell me that for the higher Eastern Cairngorms axe and crampons required, still significant accumulations of hard old snow above 800m, widespread cover on parts of higher plateaus some parts with rocks showing through, elsewhere not, variable fresh snow from last week, ice formed on the crags, cornices still present in some locations, and very cold in the wind the past week. Possibility of localised wind slab if you go deliberately poking in sheltered steep high locations on NE through to S aspects, but overall the situation is of stable spring refrozen snow with a good dollop of fresh stuff over the last 10 days making it look very wintery..

That's what my sources say as well!
I think I will stick to smaller hills for the time being as don't have enough winter experience for solo adventures yet.

Yes, high up it's still full winter conditions. Hard frosts up here for the last few nights too.

Ben Wyvis on Sunday had a fair bit of fresh which will melt quickly in the sun but the old snow underneath was like concrete. We took axes but didn't need them as the fresh snow made things nice and easy to walk on. Once the fresh snow melts back though it could be very different.

The Cairngorms locked looked pretty plastered as did anything above 800m.

Check the SAIS avalanche reports for the conditions before heading out as they'll give you the snow level etc.

Glas Bheinn above Kinlochleven had no snow on it whatsoever on Sunday but it's only 792m. Glen Coe, the Mamores, Grey Corries, through to Ben Alder range all had fairly substantial snow. A lot seemed to have fallen last week.
