Cramond Island

Cramond Island

Anyone know if the causeway to Cramond Island is still blocked off?

We haven't been there for several years and it's getting harder to come up with new places to visit within Edinburgh council area

It's been open for a while - maybe August, because I definitely sat on the wee beach when it was warm. At first they just moved the barriers a bit to make a zigzag path through, but they're gone now.

Have you been down the Dalmeny Estate side of the river? That's nice too.

Dalmeny Estate through to South Queensferry is one of my favourite walks / bike rides in the area. Lauriston Castle is worth a visit, as are the Roman ruins around Cramond Kirk.

Thanks both! We went out to the island this morning (it's still open) and also had a wander along the River Almond.

We did the walk to Queensferry in February, using the bus to get back. With hindsight it was a good time to squeeze in a walk using public transport!

I have walked - and cycled - right through to Queensferry, but more often I just go down and sit on the 'harbour wall' (with no harbour) for a while. And I went swimming from one of the beaches in the summer, but it took a while to get all the mud off!

I was at Lauriston in the rain yesterday, and saw there's a cafe now - not sure if it was there before and just closed in the summer, or if it's new.

Not sure how permanent that is - it's the Mimi's Bakehouse chain.
