Worth re-watching

Re: Worth re-watching

I have an archive copy ( saved from TV) of Top Gear from Series 1-22. Especially watching the episodes from Series 1 when they had nearly no viewers, everything was completely improvised, and the presenter later replaced by James May giving very earnest used car tips, is absolutely funny in retrospection.

I have been watching some french films lately, which are a very nice variety from highly polished Hollywood stuff.
(example: My King from 2015)

Another nice time killer is, that in Germany a lot of improvised drive in cinemas popped up. Since nearly no new movies were available this year, they were showing classics, mainly. We have seen Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman, that way:)

There's a very funny French film called Les Visiteurs I have on DVD, well worth looking out.

We watched.....eventually....les Parapluies de Cherbourg. First in French with no subtitles which was a bit tiring, then in French with Spanish subtitles which was a bit tiresome, and finally in French with English subtitles. Think I understand the plot now and can safely say it has nothing to do with hill walking.

I thought you were going to say "..and I'm still none the wiser"
I have two boxed sets of Werner Herzog movies, one with Kinski in the lead roles, again naught to do with hillwalking, but sufficiently mentally challenging to make you forget all about Covid.

Remember watching Aguirre Wrath of God when it first came out. Maybe time to watch it again, since I thought what they were doing in the mountains was impossible. Might still think the same way.

That's a great movie and Kinski is at his deranged best. :D

Watch this and realise that once upon a time, the world was a happy, safe place, where the biggest worry on wee Mrs McClaughtery fae doon the glen was whether or not Angus would remember to get the milk.

If we're getting into cinema then some old Ealing comedies like Geordie is a classic, with guess-where-that-is moments (spoiler - when the kids are first setting off up the hill to see an eagle's nest, it's in Balquhidder in the Trossachs. And then there's Whisky Galore...

Think I might just watch his Nosferatu on Christmas Day, that should cheer me up. :D

The movie 'Everest' is showing again on Netflix. Jason Clarke and Jake Gyllenhaal are brilliant as ever... as is Josh Brolin.

But the real star is the cinematography. It really brings home the scale of the mountain and the immensity of the 1993(?) disaster.

Highly recommended.

Though being silent you might have to add your own sound track...like Jingle Bells.

That's the 1913 Murnau movie, I was referring to the 1979 Herzog with Kinski as Dracula. Equally frightening.
