Many of you might have seen this before, but it's an excellent video of the Cairngorms, shot in the 1940s.

Goes to show, you don't need to spend thousands on kit. Your kilt and a pipe will do!

The kit looks very similar to the kit my friends and I used into the 70's.

One bit of kit they probably did have was hobnail boots. So no stopping to attach crampons or spikes, but probably safer than modern boots without them in winter.

Agreed - there was a shop in Aberdeen , MacKays, where these could be bought until recently, unfortunately the shop is no more. I wonder if they are available anywhere? The boots need leather soles to take the clinkers and hobnails.
