The ‘Foxy’s’ - Mountains, Lochs and Lakes Challenge 2021

There are Munro’s, Corbett’s, Murdo’s, Graham’s, Donald’s, Marylins and now...there are ‘Foxy’s.’

A ‘Foxy’ is the traverse of a Loch or Lake and the summiting of a Mountain bearing the same name- ideally within the day: But it’s not a race and not everyone likes an early start, and some of us may not be super fit, or have 2 legs, or the weather may just be against you. So, no rules really, just an excuse for an adventure.

So far, I have counted 8 (peaks over 2000ft; ok that’s a rule, with Lochs or Lakes over 1km in length. Oops, another rule). Can you find anymore? Let me know or share this to create ‘the list’. Happy hunting and maybe we will see you on the ground or on the water. I will post our plans when restrictions lift.

Approx distances and timing so far;

Heading north,
1. Loch Lomond & Ben Lomond
Loch: 24.2m/39km 7hr Kayak (it took Anne and I 7hours to kayak Loch Awe!)
Ben: 974m. 990m ascent 7.5 miles 5 hours

The far north,
2. Loch Hope & Ben Hope
Loch: 6m/10km, 2-3 hr kayak
Ben: 946m ascent, 4.75 miles 4-6 hours

3. Loch Loyal and Ben Loyal
Loch: 4m/6.5 km 1.5 he kayak
Ben: 804m ascent, 8.5 miles 5-6.5 hours

4. Loch Stack and Ben Stack
Loch: 2.6m/4.2km 1hr kayak
Ben: 721m. 694m ascent. 4.75 miles 4.5 hours

5. Loch Assynt and Ben More Assynt
Loch :7m/11.3km 2.5 hours kayak
Ben: 1077m ascent, 10.75 miles, 10 hours

The Complex Cairngorm one?
6. Ben Avon & Loch Avon
Option 1:Walk to Ben Avon: ascent 1044m 11miles - 5-6hrs.
Ben Avon to Loch Avon: 11miles 5-6hrs.
Loch Avon 1.6m/2.6km 1-2hr (swim/paddle board/raft)
Loch Avon to Cairngorm ski car park - 4.5miles 600m 2 hrs maybe an overnighter?
Option 2: Day 1: cycle/ walk Ben Avon.20.7miles, 6-10 hrs, Day 2: Loch Avon swim/paddle board/raft via Cairngorm car park return etc. Maybe return via Ben Macdui.

A detour off the West Highland Way at Kinlochleven
7. Loch Eilde Mor and Sgurr Eilde Mor
Loch: 2m/3.2km 1-2hr (swim/paddle board/raft)
Sgurr: 9 miles 4.5 hr

South of the Border:

8. Coniston Water & The Old Man of Coniston
Lake: 8.8km 2 hr Kayak
Summit: 6-7 miles 3-4hr

Any others?....

Not into that sort of thing myself but it does remind of two young lads, working in the area, who took a Canadian canoe from the Cas car park up and down to Loch Avon... Paddled the loch then up to Loch Etchachan, Lochan Buidhe? And back down to the car park. I guess that they had one of those trolleys with wheels.

There’s a Llyn Arenig Fach too - an atmospheric spot.
