Put me out my misery

Put me out my misery

Postby Nicla » Tue Apr 20, 2021 3:22 pm

Hiya, can someone PLEASE put me out my misery and tell me what these are? I was up doing Stuchd an Lochain at the weekend there and saw a few of these at the bottom of the dam. I did put it on my facebook and got various answers, the ones I thought most viable were salt blocks or art. But can anyone please clarify this, it's driving me nuts!!

If they are stuck on top of the post, them I’m baffled.

But if they were on the ground - I wonder if they are salt lick blocks for deer. The holes would form on the upward side of the cube, eroded by the rain, similar to penitentes ice formations in the Andes (although those are formed by arid/cold weather)

You could always have given them a lick to see....

I'd guess they'd have to be something like a salt lick. Very odd though.

That would be my guess too: salt licks for deer that have partially dissolved in the rain. There are some suggestions online that putting them on posts is more attractive to the deer - they prefer licking the salty runoff from the post rather than the blocks themselves.

Hmm, yeah salt blocks seem to be the most popular idea, maybe someone likes to make the deer work for it by putting it on top of a post haha, oh well. They did look pretty cool anyway :D

It is facebook's trial at catching all the hate speech that floats through the atmosphere. As you can see from what the footballers are doing, they haven't been very effective. Back to the drawing board.
