Splitting the Fisherfield 5 ...

Splitting the Fisherfield 5 ...

Postby dgm88keys » Sun Jul 04, 2021 7:37 am

Hi! I've decided I'm too old (not to mention bog-averse) to do the Fisherfields in a single trip, so looking to do three from Kinlochewe and the other two from Poolewe. Would anybody have, or know where I might obtain gpx files for these walks? Thanks.

If you are that old, suggest you get a map, like the rest of us oldies. Also book a lodge with 7 others

A fantastic way to explore the Fisherfield Forest and bag some summits, but I think you were unlucky to get primarily mediocre to poor weather with a lot of view spoiling clag. May is climatologically the driest and sunniest time of year in the highlands.

The Fisherfield hills were my husband's last unclimbed Munros( bar the Inn Pinn) for years and years. Every year friends would come up from the south around June time and every year we ended up going somewhere else because of the gloomy forecast, until eventually they got fed up with him being a nearly Munroist and said "We're going in whatever the weather." We had already climbed Beinn a Cladheimh which at the time hadn't been demoted, so went and camped behind (north of) Slioch (2003) and did the 3 from that end, during which it rained almost all day, then the following day, in the gloom, we did the other two. So we jumped at the chance of going in again in MAY, but as you can see, we were lucky to get one passable day for A'Maighdean. Much the same party went in again this year, and got far better weather. Husband wasn't up to it, so we bowed out, which suited the Estate's diktats re social distancing. Thoroughly recommend the lodge, which shared between a sensible amount of people costs no more than a mid range hotel.

Look at the walk reports for Fisherfields and check the ones which say 2 munros, and not 5. Most are from Poolewe and often have gpx routes.

Similarly, those saying 3 munros are often from Kinlochewe.

You can also create your own GPX routes on Walkhighlands under the GPS heading. I wonder if this is an underused resource?
