For the record, I eat my apple cores, which probably makes me a barbarian.

That doesn't make you a barbarian, but it might make you a tree...

I'm disappointed that this thread has degenerated. Not what was intended.

I spent yesterday morning with my DofE group picking up individual pasta twirls and some porridge they had left on the floor. Some really struggled with it at the time - I was the big bad supervisor.
However, this morning they woke up on a pristine beach, and two of them brought me litter they picked up on the beach and asked if I (with a shorter walk than they) would carry out out for them.
They left not a drop of food on the floor either.
I'll take that as a win.

Just, as it were, for the record, I went for a walk in the Lakes last month and found orange peel on three of the first four tops we got to - Arnison Crag, St. Sunday and Fairfield but none on Birks. It didn't completely ruin my day (and sticking it in my bag wasn't any great hardship) but the fact that I recall it now suggests that it took the edge off what was otherwise a lovely day.
I thought that we'd got to the stage where most hill-goers realised that, while the remains of their lunch are technically biodegradable, they can stick around for long enough to compromise other people's enjoyment. Maybe - because the Spanish costas have been out of range for many this summer - there have been more people out on the hills who haven't learned their manners?

You should ban yourself for that behaviour, imo
