Cairn on Meallach Mhor

Cairn on Meallach Mhor

Postby Tam Collie » Tue Sep 14, 2021 2:58 pm

Was rambling around the Feshie and Tromie Corbetts at the week end and climbed Meallach Mhor. The summit cairn is no more and only a few stones are piled where once a reasonable cairn once stood.

I was wondering if this was a lightning stike or perhaps a deliberate removal. The stones are scattered a few feet around the old cairn. Guess I'll never know but worth commenting to save someone looking for a cairn in the mist that doesn't exist anymore.

Lightning strike is definitely a possibility - the surrounding ground looks too stony to show any signs of ground currents (trails of ripped up turf), which are sometimes evident. Someone will likely rebuild it soon, I guess.

It could be that the celebrated Cairn kicker has been at it again.:-(

I was trying to explain cairn kickers to a couple of young folk a few weeks ago and found it pretty heavy going. Are there any still around? Are they still as obsessed?
