Route from the saddle at Loch Avon

Route from the saddle at Loch Avon

Postby AdamR » Wed Sep 15, 2021 3:44 pm

It's due to be a good day tomorrow so I'm planning to walk to Ben Macdui from the ski centre, then drop down to Loch Etchachan, Loch Avon & then head along to the saddle then back to the ski centre. I've covered all of this terrain before, except from the saddle back to the ski centre. Is the route up from the saddle easy to find?

There is quite a good path to begin with, which fades out rather as you get up towards Ciste Mhearad, but by then it is just a matter of pointing yourself uphill and then heading across to the Ptarmigan.

As markb says, there is a bit where the path seems to disappear, but if you've got a map and compass, or clear visibility, it's easy enough to keep heading in the right direction. I did it on the way back from the Saddle on a walk last week, couple of relevant photos and comments towards the end here:
