Wild camping is definitely the best option. However, if going in the summer months do be prepared for the midge. They can be horrific and debilitating and have ended many a trip. I did the Cape Wrath trail as part of the Scottish National Trail in September to try and avoid them. They were not as bad as in summer, but still annoying at times. I tried to combat this by camping high where it was more windy, but higher up there are are fewer sites as many hills in the North West have thick heather. Anyway, its all part of the adventure. Its a fantastic trail.
