Hello
I'm a backpacker from Portugal and I'm interested in doing the Cape Wrath trail and would like to know if it's possible to do wild camping along the trail.

Thank you for your help!!!!

Hi there, yes wild camping is fine on the Cape Wrath Trail and a lot of the time it's your only option. 8) Here is the Scottish Access Code on Wild Camping:

Access Code wrote:Access rights extend to wild camping. This type of camping is lightweight, done in small numbers and only for two or three nights in any one place. You can camp in this way wherever access rights apply, but help to avoid causing problems for local people and land managers by not camping in enclosed fields of crops or farm animals and by keeping well away from buildings, roads or historic structures. Take extra care to avoid disturbing deer stalking or grouse shooting. If you wish to camp close to a house or building, seek the owner's permission. Leave no trace by:
◾taking away all your litter
◾removing all traces of your tent pitch and of any open fire (follow the guidance for lighting fires)
◾not causing any pollution

Hi

Yes, as said above, its pretty much always done as a wild camping trip, with some options to use bothies, and the odd visit to civilization at a few rare points along the route.

Wild camping is definitely the best option. However, if going in the summer months do be prepared for the midge. They can be horrific and debilitating and have ended many a trip. I did the Cape Wrath trail as part of the Scottish National Trail in September to try and avoid them. They were not as bad as in summer, but still annoying at times. I tried to combat this by camping high where it was more windy, but higher up there are are fewer sites as many hills in the North West have thick heather. Anyway, its all part of the adventure. Its a fantastic trail.
