Glen Lyon access - new information

Glen Lyon access - new information

Postby HalfManHalfTitanium » Sat Oct 30, 2021 6:51 pm

I think this is new information, anyway. It is not on the Heading for the Scottish Hills regional info on access during the stalking season, which simply says "no information available" for the Glen Lyon routes to Stucd an Lochain, Meall Buidhe (the Munro) Meall Ghaordaidh, Beinn nan Oighreag and Meall nam Maigheach.

The notice in the glen shows routes to each of these hills that are open on all days during the stalking season.

I've set out full details including maps at the end of my recent TR on Stucd an Lochain - https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=109051

Hope that's useful!

Yes. a very welcoming estate. The maps were there on our 1st visit in 2006.

Good to know. Hopefully many people are aware of the estate’s attitude. It is an odd omission that the info has not been picked up by the Heading for the Scottish Hills website.

The notice board also had an explanation of why some walkers’ parties, particularly big groups, can affect the deer cull. This was the best explanation I have seen, far better than the blanket warnings at nearby North Chesthill. It will help me to better plan my autumn walking routes.

Agreed, to be applauded. Less so the fifty or so juvenile hoidlum stags who barred my way to the Giorra Dam when I was last there. Took much tooting and swearing to get them to shift. 😄
