Least climbed mainland Marilyn

Least climbed mainland Marilyn

Postby Robertgee » Tue Nov 09, 2021 8:23 pm

I've been slowly working my way through the south of Scotland Marilyns recently. On most of the hills I rarely see anyone else, and looking at the number of Walkhighlanders who have climbed these hills, I see the count is below 100 for many of them. Does anyone know what exactly is the least climbed mainland Marilyn? The least climbed that I've done so far is Calkin Rig with 46 Walkhighlanders doing this to date. The one with the lowest count, that I can find, is Fell of Fleet at 42, (I'm still to do that one, sometime soon hopefully).

Hi Robert, I have visited all the South of Scotland Marilyn's apart from Cairnsmore (Fell of Fleet) and like you said you rarely meet anyone else.
One of the main challenges and fun part was plotting routes, mainly because there aren't many available.
As you are probably finding out, the ones in the SW are not the easiest to get to especially from the Central belt.
Good luck.

From the W H list it’s Stac Lee on St kilda with 3 ascents. Given it’s a rock sticking out the sea l suppose that is not surprising. Many of the ‘peaks’ least ascended are on islands. I wonder how many people have completed all of these 🤔

Thanks everyone, don't know how I've never noticed the hills by accent option before  thanks jmarkb exactly what I was looking for.

Hi Fife flyer, I've been actively following many of your routes to find ways up these hills, and sometimes completely avoiding others, your routes don't always follow the easy options, like the one for Fell of Fleet

And the most climbed island Sub, to complete the set? :D I think it's Meall na Suireamach at the Quiraing, but I might have missed a name in the list above it.

Looks like it's An Sgùrr (Eigg) on the WH league table, unless I missed one. But I don't think many people venture up to the summit of Meall na Suireamach.

I'm not sure they do either, but they've claimed it - it's 42 on the list with 376 ascents to the Sgurr of Eigg's 57 and 320. The Sgurr is definitely a more 'islandy' hill...

Missed that, doesn't have Skye in brackets. I suppose a lot of baggers will go up to the summit whereas tourists won't and unlikely to have a hill logger. 😁

I don't know if Paul will let me direct you to another site where I report it. We had a great day out, met an adder, right next to my hand, and a fawn, right next to R's boots.

I've posted the report here, as I know Paul doesn't like me directing people off the site for reports
