Wild Camping Remote spots

Wild Camping Remote spots

Postby Souls80 » Sat Jan 15, 2022 6:41 pm

Hey guys,

I plan on going wild camping with a mate up north in Scotland somewhere. Preferably somewhere remote and not busy. It's only been general localised spots to Glasgow and Edinburgh that I've camped before. Looking for somewhere that is easily accessible by train more northerly but also a decent walk as well from the station. My mate wants somewhere for the night sky (avid photographer). Can anyone recommend anywhere like that?

All help appreciated 😁

Train out to corrour, you'll not get much more remote direct from train, and no light pollution either.

Train to Dalwhinnie, walk to Culra, camp overnight. Next day, continue on to Corrour, camp or stay at YH. Next day, hike to Fort William or Spean Bridge.

Minigaig pass from Blair Atholl to Kingussie.

Train to Inverness, bus to Poolewe, stay overnight at campsite. Next day, hike across the Fisherfield Forest, there is a path that will take you to Sheneval bothy and onward to Dundonnell. Camp somewhere in the heart of Fisherfield and take the opportunity to climb one or two munros, or even try a summit camp on A' Mhaighdean.

Train to Altnabreac, bog hop to Beinn Nam Bad.

Alternatively train to Forsinard, then bog hop to Ben Griam Beg.

Have a look at the OS maps for the stations on the Inverness/Kyle line.

A few suggestions -

Achnasheen
Achnashellach
Strathcarron.

Corrour Station immediately springs to mind, you've got loads of options once you get off that train. 8)

Corrour would be my choice then either head to Kinlochleven or Dalwhinnie. Going to Dalwhinnie takes you past Ben Alder and good camping near Culra bothy or at Loch Pattack.
