things that have lasted

This made me go and look.

Emergency whistle came from a 1974 Subbuteo set.
Field and Trek stuff sac I bought off the back of a school order in 1980ish.
Dachsteins from Tiso's on Rose Street in 1986.
Lent a Silva Type 4 to couple I met in Glen Affric Hostel in 1989. They sent back a new one which is still fine.

They were AMAZING.
Although by my final Munro - 8 years after the purchase - an inspection revealed that I'd seriously worn away the treads.
I have had three sets of boots since.
None have matched the Raichles in terms of durability, comfort or versatility.

I couldn't bring myself to throw them out so they live on as general purpose boots. I pointed out to my wife that they had come in handy when we repaired the garden fence after storm Arwen so they have earned their place in the cupboard -for now. The Mammut replacements turned out to be a bit too tight for my slightly wide feet so something has been lost.

Have far older bits of kit but in terms of sheer (ab)use - my Camelbak Cloudwalker - bought at least 15 years ago and possibly longer is still going strong(ish).

Had almost daily use for 5-10 years as a commuting bag, default MTB/fell running/small hill bag and also taken packed to the brim on as my sole carry on a few non-physical holidays and day pack for the 'proper' ones.

It's seen a fair few parts of the world.

Just packed it up now to take to the park.

Starting to wear at the bottom and small zip is a bit ropey. Feel I've got my money's worth from it.
