aye, I was listening to that report and thought it was a weird description. Almost equidistant between Perth and Inverness and close to neither. Either they don't think the audience knows Scotland well, or they don't.
Be interesting to know what percentage of the Scottish population could pick out Dalwhinnei on a map

It is of course a matter of perception and depends on how much you travel. A few of my colleagues didn't want to travel from Glasgow to Perth for a meeting recently because Perth is such a "long journey" to get to.
I suspect committed hillwalkers take a more long distance view of travel than would be the case for most of the population. Even so, I think a 55mile trip is pushing the definition of "near".
