Glen Dessary Munros - Forestry Track?

Glen Dessary Munros - Forestry Track?

Postby jupe1407 » Mon May 16, 2022 4:22 pm

Quick question - I have seen mention of a forestry track approach to the Glen Dessary hills, it looks as though I could get a mountain bike a few miles along this, avoiding some of the boggy approach path into the bargain.

It looks as though I could get as far as the bridge at NM931934 - is this about the limit for a decent full sus? I don't need to get it much further than that as i'd be planning the 3 munros starting with Sgurr na Ciche and hopefully coming down off the Corbett with the massive name's SW ridge which looks feasible but probably rough.

Has anyone done this? I'm guessing if not, it's for a very good reason

The most recent edition of the SMC Munros guide describes the bike approach via the forestry track to that bridge.

Yes, you can get along the southern forestry track by bike to the bridge - it can be quite a boggy slog up through the trees to pick up the old military path from the bridge though.. Lots of fairy toadstools in autumn!

My route (not all three Munros, 1 of them and the Corbett) and TR from a few weeks ago. Might shed some light on some of your questions?

Hi jupe, I would suggest the WH route for these munros as far better and I would leave the bike at home.

I think your route adds more bog and extreme bog rather than removing any!

All the best :D

We followed that on the CWT after leaving a'Chuil Bothy and would agree you'd get a bike as far as the bridge. The boggy section up to the path isn't too bad and fairly shortlived.

Thanks everyone. I will allow the weather to decide. A reasonably dry spell before hand and i'll probably choose the bike option.

Thanks again :)
