Ruadh-stac Beag to Beinn Eighe

Ruadh-stac Beag to Beinn Eighe

Postby WalkWithWallace » Tue May 31, 2022 8:25 am

Has anyone combined the Corbett, Ruadh-stac Beag with Beinn Eighe. If so, what is the route like between the two?

On the Harvey's Map, it looks like a steep but doable drop down to Lochan Uaine, it then looks like you should be able to pick a line avoiding the crags up the north ridge of Spidean Coire nan Clach by staying slightly more to the west.

Is it easy enough to find a line up the ridge without too much difficulty? We'll have camping packs on too.

I have not done it, but the N ridge of Spidean Coire nan Clach is a slabby Grade 2 scramble if you keep close to the crest, starting on the E side. The SMC guidebook says that "all difficulties are avoidable", but that might just mean you can reduce it to Grade 1. Keeping further west looks like a load of scree and boulders - probably doable but maybe not much fun and less secure than the slabs. The corrie to the E of the ridge is also full of boulders, but at a somewhat lower angle.

Thanks, that's useful. I get the vibe it's mostly clambering over large boulders but I also considered the corrie around to the east. 🤔

Don't know if this is of any use, but best I've got.

Didn't do it myself as I did Meall a' Ghiubhais before Ruadh-stac Beag but thought it looked doable.

Just dug through my photos of that day and believe that's Lochain Uaine to the bottom right with the ridge you've in mind above.

Scoob's report includes a video with R-sB and the eastern end of BE which may help ?

Cheers folks, looks like a grade 1/2 scramble on what I can make out on Scoob's video. Dunno if I fancy that with a camping pack.

Up that way a couple of weeks ago. Did RSB via Its N end comprising a intimidating scramble / low grade climb. Descent between the two fine just a bit of loose scree. Very nice spot between the two. If you don’t fancy the scramble up Spidean the Corrie to the E of the ridge appears to have a deer track through the scree to the ridge. As can be seen from the contours this slope is steep rather precipitous.

Oops; That should read ‘steep rather than precipitous’

I don't mind steep scree and boulders, as I've done the steep sides of Glamaig very recently. 8)

Had you been planning a traverse or circular?

Wouldn't mind going by to do the Beinn Eighe tops but it seems a difficult hill to get a circular route on tbh.

We were going to dump a bike and do the two Corbetts then the western half of Beinn Eighe. Think we're going to head into the Loch Monar hills and do a circuit there instead.
