Baby and pram...any suggestions?

Baby and pram...any suggestions?

Postby Kathl » Wed Jun 15, 2022 9:32 pm

Hi everyone!!
We want to visit Scotland this year and I'm looking for nice hikes and walks that can be done with a pram. I found some on the internet, but mostly around towns and gardens....but we like it more wild and free  the buggy has big wheels and is perfect for hiking, but it's still a buggy  , any suggestions are welcome :D

I think in most parts of Scotland you will find walks to suit you into the wild, partly thanks to the not always popular hydro schemes and stalkers. So it's a case of picking the area you want to visit and checking more specifically about that area.

Around Aviemore would be perfect, so many really good paths out through Rothiemurchus, also out towards Ryvoan Bothy and beyond. The Speyside way from the golf course is lovely too (must be a contender for the most beautiful parkrun route in the UK!).

The other side of the A9 is worth looking at too, Burma road out from Lynwilg, steep at first but stunning views and loops back into town from the north. I reckon you'd get a decent off road buggy up Sgor Gaoith and also Bynack More if you want to tick off some stunning views too.

I think Bynack Mor with a baby in a pram might be pushing it a bit ;)

But yes - Aviemore would be a good base with fine trails around Loch Morlich and out to Ryvoan.

Agree re Aviemore, plus there is the Landmark centre at Carrbridge.

Loch an Eilean is fabulous. Don't do the whole circuit - just the there and back near the castle (last sections of the WH described route). Also there is a good track to Loch Garten. Photos of these two in my report here https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=109407

Have a great time!

Bynack More mibbe too much, but it'd still be a great walk up as far as ye dare go with an offroad buggy (it's not a pram!).

The out and back to Loch Eanaich is also uber braw.

Braemar/Deeside would also be a good base. Plenty of very good paths from Linn of Dee and Invercauld Bridge that can be as low or high level as you like.

My dad pushed me up Cairngorm in a pram when I was 2 - definitely wouldn't recommend that one!

If you're out west, Glencoe lochan would be good with a pram and between Inveruglas and Loch Sloy. Both walks would give you a sense of being in the mountains without actually being in danger/ on rough terrain.

Did the West Highland Way this April and you could do the first few bits, but NOT the section beyond Inversnaid. You can take an alternative low route round Conic Hill, and you mightn't want to do the Devil's Staircase on the penultimate day, but there are lots of good day walks, setting out and then going back half way.
