Hi Friends!

Is it possible to combine The Devil's Point via Càrn a'Mhaim starting from the Linn of Dee?
Any hints much appreciated and thank you in advance!

I mean if you went up and back down the south side of Càrn a'Mhaim via the steps there and carried on to the devils point then I would assume so. How far along Càrn a'Mhaim will you want to go. It is a nice walk to just south of Ben Macdui but not sure if you could go down the west side following one of the streams.

Yes, both could be combined. Bits of this in reverse may help and section of track below. Can remember CaM from the West being a bit trickier than the south.

Thanks! Do you remember if the Carn a'Mhaim west slope has a path and if it is hard to find or did you just off-piste it?

Hi Goral85
I did these from Linn of Dee by climbing Carn a' Mhaim first, then headed along its north ridge, which is an enjoyable arête to walk. Then headed down alongside Tailor's burn to get to Corrour Bothy and up to Devil's Point. Some people do head west from Carn a' Mhaim's summit for a more direct but rougher descent. I personally found the arête worth including in the walk, especially when I was lucky with the weather.

Excellent! Was it easy enough to find a path from the arete towards the bothy?
Do you remember roughly how many km/miles it took? I've never walked more than 32km at a time and need to factor in the distance.

Thank you

Quite rough as Simon also notes and I don't think there was any path. As I was going up in the evening, I was looking for the most direct route but didn't fancy descending it in the clag and lowering light levels.

To get down from Cairn a Mhaim to Corrour it is much quicker, simpler and easier to go back the way you came up, joining the path from Luibeag which goes over the shoulder of Carn a Mhaim to Corrour. This also is much less likely to snap your femurs and leave you screaming in a gulley for days until the ravens peck the dead, sightless eyes from your corpse, as would happen on the west side of Cairn a Mhaim. Enjoy!

Yes, we basically followed the ridge down towards Ben Macdui, then dropped into the Lairig Ghru, which is steep in places with no path (just take your time) then picked up the path and walked to Corrour Bothy then up the Devil's Point. 8)

I think I might just do that if the weather is generous enough :)

Another word of advice required. How long / hard is the scramble between the Corrour Bothy and the Devil's Point?
I've never scrambled (I think? ) before.

Its a walk, the path is a motorway.
I think there are some recorded scrambles there but I'd be very wary of them.

Stick to the path behind the bothy. There's no scrambling.
