I've never scrambled (I think? ) before.

Stick to the path behind the bothy. There's no scrambling.

Excellent - thanks :)

Definitely doable. I did the route outlined by Rockhopper...

...but I can confirm that the slog up the slope to Carn a'Mhaim is quite brutal. There was no path that I could see.

It may be better taking the longer but less ferocious route followed by WalkwithWallace, which, if I remember correctly, is also the route that a recall another WHer following.

I haven't linked the 2 hills up ( it's a fair drop between them) but I have covered all the ground. I walked from Linn o' Dee to Aviemore taking in Carn a' Mhaim on the way. It took me 3 hours to get from Linn of Dee to the top of Cairn a' Mhaim on a good path all the way. 2 hours to the Luibeg burn which I crossed at the ford (not always possible) and 1 hour from the burn crossing to the summit. Its a fine walk along the ridge and straightforward if rough walk down by the Tailors burn and back on to the Lairig Ghru path.

This is my walking route on that day some of which might be of use. All the best. :D
