Litter on the Ben

Litter on the Ben

Did anyone see this superhero on Ben Nevis at the weekend?

It's part of the John Muir Trust's campaign to get on top of organic litter on the Ben.So far we've talked to hundreds of walkers about the issue, hopefully it'll start to pay off in terms of the amount of rubbish we have to haul off the hill.

I like the idea very much. At last somebody is doing something to raise awareness about too much litter around. When I walked the Ring of Steall the previous weekend, I counted about 10 rotting banana skins dumped all along the path...
I've recently had a bad experience when I politely asked somebody to pick up what they dropped (I wrote about it in another thread). I think educating the young generation is the key and this funny banana-man will certainly attract kid's attention :D :D Good luck!

Eurgh. I think of your post detailing that every time i hear mention of Ben Nevis!

Anything that tries to change the attitudes of those who litter the hills is great.

I was just commenting today on how many cigarette butts you see on the hills. Whilst I personally cannot imagine anything worse than having the fresh air around me poisoned by smoke (especially after all the effort you go to to get the fresh air!), I understand some people are addicted and need a fag where'er they go. I wish they would clean up after themselves, it's just as bad as all other rubbish left on the hillsides. I salute your campaign!

Thanks for all the replies - even the rotten jokes! - good to know there is a bit of support out there for this campaign. Bananaman may be heading to other hills in the near future, we'll keep you posted.
