First Winter Experience

First Winter Experience

Postby jalal » Tue Dec 01, 2009 6:54 pm

Hi

What an experience, my first outing in the winter and the nice weather seems to follow everywhere i go.
I went to the Mamores , enjoyed it very much lots of snow and i expected to be very cold at the top but i was wrong,

My only scare was going over a ridge and i was not sure how far out i was or if the snow was solid or soft and some of the tracks coming down were icy and very slippery and i did end up in my bottom few times, but appart from that it was a great day and defenetly heading back out again next week

The view as u can see in the photos were incredible and i could see for milles.
More photos to follow

I think i should invest some money in an axe and crampons but i dont want to spend lots of money.

NB/Does anyone has a second hands ones for sale ???

Good walking
Jalal

Jalal, could I sugest you take a look in the walk report's & have a look at Binnein Mor on the 28th Nov by Freewheelin ? As it might show you the problems with cornices & trying to get over /through them

Stunning pics Jalal - but yes, you do need an ice-axe and crampons and to learn how to use them.

Great photos Jalal!

Get yourself some crampons and an ice axe before you end up as a sad statistic. Just as important, get yourself on a winter skills course before you start using them.

Sorry for the lecture.

Safe walking

And a helmet! Don't forget the helmet. As I was ploughing a furrow down the north face of Ben Nevis with my nose, using my face as an ice-breaker through the crust of frozen snow through which there poked many sharp and pointy rocks, I thought "what I need here is a helmet". Get a helmet.
