This guide is for anyone who wants to climb these mountains and aims to provide reliable routes and tips for ascending them safely. The Munros will ensure you reach parts of Scotland you might otherwise overlook, spend memorable evenings in pubs, bothies and wild camps, and have encounters with other walkers, locals and wildlife that enhance the adventure regardless of whether you get to the top of one Munro or all of them.

“The Munros are mountains in Scotland with a height of over 3000ft and take their name from the first list of such hills published in 1891 by Victorian mountaineer Sir Hugh Munro, 4th Baronet of Lindertis. Revised several times in the years since, most recently in 2012, the official list now features 282 peaks.

Looks good!

Any chance of a preview of a route to see what layout is like?

You kept that one quiet Paul?
What's the story (Yours and Helen's) behind it?
Will it differ from other Munro guide books on the market?

Not intentionally - I thought I've been going on about it for ages  It was intended for publication more than 2 years ago and has suffered quite alot of delays. We've been updating it constantly since then, so it's good to see it finally coming out and you all get evidence it does exist in case some were beginning have doubts. :D

How would I describe it? The introduction etc. are aimed to be a bit more light-hearted in tone; I'd say the route descriptions are hopefully more detailed than most guidebooks. As well as the main popular route described for each Munro, there are alternative suggestions mentioned for most of them. There are also area introductions which we've tried to give info about things like walkers' pubs, pie shops, the best fish and chips, or anything else in the area that we thought might be of interest. For someone new to the Munros hopefully we've included the things you really want to know.

The design is quite like our other guidebooks i.e. small pages but this is much thicker (672 pages); the photos (by a number of different photographers) are mostly whole page or double page spreads rather than having the same format for every route (likewise the descriptions are all different lengths rather than sticking to a page-per-hill type thing). The publisher is going to put up some page samples on their website at some point.

Thanks all and I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks Paul,
Perhaps I forgot about you saying something about it, but can only remember you talking about your pocket guides.
Sounds great, I hope it will do well.
It's a hard market to get into nowadays with lots of guide books on the Munro's out there, when I started doing them there was only 2, the SMC and Irving Butterfield's...which is still the "bible"

It looks very comprehensive and will put on my Christmas list. Do you have plans for an 'ebook' format?
