First time to Scotland

First time to Scotland

We will be driving from Keswick to Skye to St. Andrews to Peebles then south across Yorkshire Dales & Abbeys. Trying to get an idea of some short not too difficult treks along the way. Looking for exercise as much as sights. I have an iPad & iPhone along with MotionX.

That's quite a bit of driving, hopefully the weather will be kind to you

What sort of distance are you thinking about trekking? Are you planning to go through Glencoe on your way to Skye, if you aren't can I suggest you make a wee detour

Hi, for short walks on (or not far off) your way I would suggest (obviously there are a lot more but I only mention ones I've done):

Grey Mare's tail near Moffat:

Ben A'an (if wether is with you get cracking views over Loch Katerine):

A stroll around Loch Katerine

Longer but still worth the walk is Ben Lomond:

On Skye:

The Old man of Storr:

The Quiraing:

Rubha Hunish (good for Wildlife spotting especially Minke whales):

If I had to choose only one it would be The Quiraing I guess...but I wouldn't want to have to choose!

Whilst on Skye I would recommend (in addition to the above) seeing Boreraig and Suisnish. These are clearance villages and very haunting, along with great views of the Cuillins and Lochs. All in 10miles approx.

Cameron McNeish covers this walk in his Skye Trail, it's also in the Cicerone Isle of Skye guidebook
