Stupid topic but Inverness greasy spoon/van?!

Stupid topic but Inverness greasy spoon/van?!

Postby IamAJMiller » Mon Jun 30, 2014 7:10 pm

So tomorrow morning we're going from Perth to Attadale and will be going through Inverness at about 8am. I don't really want to bugger about looking for a place so can any Inverness locals/regular visitors suggest a decent place to grab a coffee and a bacon roll. Not looking to stop for very long so a burger van or quick cafe would be ideal. Is there one on the Industrial estate that Tiso is on?

I know this is on a par with my "Which is the best chipper on the way to Skye" post, but I like to be prepared! ;-) Any help very welcome!

B&Q has a trailer - on the same side as Tisos just past wickes. Also there is a cafe further down the side road that runs past Tisos. Its on the right. I am sorry but I do not know what time they open nor of any other place on your route.

It's a bit beyond Inverness, but there's Tarvie Services, not far before you get to Garve on the A835. Good bacon butty, but not so good coffee.

A couple around TISOs and B&Ql also the V8 cafe on the longman is the traditional greasy spoon that's open all hours.

So can anyone recommend a decent barber's in Inverness, now that Allans on Huntly Street has closed?

Actually, it was sad to hear he was having to shut down the week following my last visit there recently. The barber's shop had been there for 30 years, but roadworks have killed his business.

I would never go near any trailer burger van. The levels of hygiene in these things is pretty awful. You're taking your life in your hands every time you snack at these places.

Try Inverness Barbers on Strothers Lane (just between the bus and railway station). I can't say if it's any better or worse than any of the other ones, but they do the job well enough. As a bloke, I don't like wasting time looking for things like barber shops, so I will probably keep going there until there's a good reason not to.

Before I moved to edinburgh I always went to the barber above culloden garage. Maybe a strange place for a barber but did the job.
Theres a cafe in HIS. Not sure of the opening time of the cafe, but HIS is open pretty early.

This may well be the best piece of advice I've ever had on WH!! The V8 cafe is my new favorite place!! Thanks very much!

As a female I can't say I've ever wasted any time looking for a barbers :)

Not Inverness but if traveling the A9 The Truck Stop at Newtonmore (NewtonmoreGrill) do good breakfasts. Don't be put off by the appearance as it is very clean, staff are friendly and the food is good.

Dobbies is OK, but once you've factored in your tea/coffee cost, you can get a much nicer cooked breakfast for the same price at Simpsons garden centre, just across the A9. Tried Dobbies a couple of weeks ago and was mildly disappointed - won't be going back for breakfast.
