So, how did you do?

So, how did you do?

Postby Lightfoot2017 » Fri Sep 19, 2014 1:03 pm

Back in June, I started a thread asking about people’s plans, ambitions, aspirations for the summer. A number of WH’ers replied with a range of very interesting and thought-provoking responses: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=43029&p=241507#p241507

Now that we’re into the second half of Sept, I think it’s fair to say Summer is well and truly over.

It would be interesting to hear from folks whether they achieved their goals or not.

For the record, my own ambitions have been pathetically missed. I only managed to achieve target 1) listed here.

Very poor. :(

-Sort the back garden out. Bored of just seeing earth out of the window.
-Write my synopsis for the report I have to submit to get my professional qualification (only put it off for about 5 years so far).
-Join my parents for a couple of days when they are on holiday in Fort William.
-Do some backpacking and camping around the Southern Uplands
-Some more island visits - Arran, Harris, Orkney possibly.

-Garden done...by my mum in law.......while I backpacked around the Southern Uplands :shifty:
-Synopsis almost written, but not submitted :?
-Had a good time with my parents, and a great walk out around Mallaig and Loch Morar.
-Not been to any islands since I wrote that. Must be rectified.

First Furth (done), first Munro (still to come).
I wasn't going to break the pattern that saw English Corbett- and Graham-equivalents come before the real thing, but it took a while before I had a weekend free for the Lakes :)

My summer looks like it's mostly going to be taken up with dancing, otherwise...

I got the Munro, and another - and another 20 Wainwrights, I think.

And the three dance trips went well, including the one where I was in charge - so pretty good overall. Just a shame I was so short on walking time.

The year is not over so nothing is lost for the targets not yet achieved

I hit the half way and went on to bag 8 Munros more. Hit the 30% of Corbetts and also went on to bag more. Climbed some of my to-do mountains, didn't get around to some others. All in all, not a bad year number-wise. I missed the AE ridge this year, but I'm not crying about it

I'm technically a 9.9 handicap now, so almost single figures.

Everything I wanted except Braeriach, which is rapidly moving into "days aren't long enough" territory. Added around 15 this summer, mostly from Northumberland, which isn't bad going at all :)

Found the lost hordes of Loch Arkaig cleggs, got eaten alive. No Jacobite gold for me....

Missed the original thread too.. But moving house and stressful new job have meant less time than expected in the hills I love this summer..
There is an ever evolving bucket list of hills in our house that never gets any shorter, but does evolve, as we do trips, then have to add on other hills that looked good from afar :?
Managed to avoid compleating, so thats been good.. Really looking forward to winter too.. Come on snow! 8)

Plan is a few in the Cairngorms, Corrour 3, then probably Glencoe (aaahhh) and or the Sisters and then study the map

Smug or what   Reached 162 so far, still to do the Sisters, they will have to wait till next year
Downside car has 25,000 miles on the clock, only 2 yrs old and I don't even use it for work, cos I don't
Been a great year, met & walked with umpteen different folk on here   Next year will be even better

Aint been on this site for long but its been a very disappointing year for me with family and work getting in the way, some good and bad.
Had this walk planned for during the summer but didn't get off the ground, have now planned it for start of October.
Plan to walk and wild camp from Attadale to Struy over 3 Corbetts and 9 Munros,i do like multi day outs.

Not done anything since the end of May. Back issues are stopping me from getting out in the hills.

But summer? I like spring, autumn and indeed winter. July and August are not my favourite months for hill walking.

Aye, I'm looking forward to long evenings by myself in the common room at a deserted Aviemore Youth Hostel as the days get shorter and staying up there is the only way to get there in time. My favourite time of year on the hills, September through to November, when you start needing that big coat again after convincing yourself that your new layering solution you worked out in the summer will work all year round :)

Might just make Braeriach yet :) How long from the Sugar Bowl for a bog-standard county average non-rocket walker? Eight hours or so?

Managed to hit 50 today on Beinn Dorain. I want 100 before this time next year.
