Lubnaclach Cottage, south of Corrour

Lubnaclach Cottage, south of Corrour

Postby jester » Sat Oct 18, 2014 3:19 pm

A few days ago I walked from Rannoch to Corrour. We had a wee diversion to a ruined cottage called Lubnachlach, just south of Corrour. Can anyone tell me anything about the history of this place?

Don`t know much about the history of it but it provided a decent doss one winter in the late 70s so was in reasonable nick then :)

There are a couple of contributions from members of the public on the Canmore site for Lubnaclach that also confirm it was habitable in the 1970s. There doesn't appear to be much known before that though. Click here.

Back in 1990, I was staying at Loch Ossian Youth Hostel. I met the gentleman who had been living at Lubnaclach at the time, but had to come to Loch Ossian as Lubnaclach had just burned down. He was lamenting its demise. I do not remember his name, but he was friendly with the then-warden at the hostel, Tom Rigg.
The Corrour estate has indicated that Lubnaclach will not be rebuilt. It was apparently in use by railway supervisors, then by estate workers.
