Sth Shiel Munros camping

Postby Shaun Barber » Wed Jan 21, 2015 4:17 pm

Hi
I am looking to do the South Shiel Munros east to west. Does anyone know if it is possible to camp after the decent from Creag nan Damh, before reaching the A87 please?
Thanks

Oops, try again!

I'm sure you'd find a reasonable spot by the Allt Mhalagain just before you reach the road.

I personally wouldn't bother carrying camping kit along the entire SGSR - instead, I'd pitch your tent by the old bridge near the Historic Scotland's 'Battle of Glen Shiel 1719' sign (NG991132 or thereabouts) and either hitch to the Cluanie Inn and walk back along the ridge to your tent or set off from your tent up onto the ridge and hitch back at the end of the day.

Thanks for this and yes that's why I am asking.
Looking to camp there then drive to Clunie first thing and leave the car there. Walk day one and end up at tent then day two go across road and go west to east on North ridge ending up back at the car. A short drive back to the tent for second nights kip...

OK, I reckon beside the old 'Battle of Glen Shiel' bridge is the spot for you then

Enjoy!

Theres also a bus service running up the Glen just to ensure you could get transport and then walk back.

I always do the linear ridges using a bike to start. I'm surprised more people don't do this. I did the South Ridge from The Saddle this way last year.
As regards good campsites, this was mine...

You may recognise the building of cultural, architectural and historical interest in the background... :)
