Munro names for dogs

Munro names for dogs

Postby summitchaser » Wed Feb 04, 2015 3:25 pm

Hi folks, my lab has had a litter of pups and we are going to keep one, pretty certain its going to be a girl we keep or so I'm told, im the only guy in the house with 4 females so would like a boy myself haha. Every name I pick it apparently to male like. I like aonach. Buachaille, sgurr, I like the first the best though due to the pronunciation (oenach ). Any suggestions very welcome. Ryan

Well the obvious one is A'Mhaighdean (The Maiden) though she may not remain so. :D Why not Fiona, that's a good sufficiently snooty name for a lady lab and Sgurr Fiona is a fine summit. :D

Morven
Fraoch (Bheinn) (= Heather)
Fraochaidh (=Heathery)
(The) Fara
(Carn) Ealasaid (= Elizabeth)

Gearanach or Teanga might not be inappropriate girl names.

A' Chailleach, the old woman, or as an alternative Meagaidh, as in Craig Meagaidh, would be quite a nice feminine sounding name.

Thanks for that input guys. The only one I don't like is Fiona its too human like. I mind a while ago I heard someone shouting on there retriever named Stuart I did have a good laugh and thought no chance lol. Biddy's a good one i climbed that in the summer with tia the mum of the pups. A lot easier for my 2 young kids to say as well. Only thing is is it not pronounced beetyan

We have settled on sgurr, itl be different anyway. I like different names. Took me a very long time name my youngest and had to change my mind about 40 times. Be a long time until she sees a Munro though. Me and mum will hopefully be into the hundreds by the time the little one joins in.

Haven't you descovered the pronunciation feature on the Hills feature (above)? Go to one of the Sgurr's in the Munros section, press the button and you will find a Gaelic speaker doing it. (I asked about Sub 2000s but funds don't run to them since not many of us get around to them, so I shall never know how to pronounce Sgorr an Fharaidh, and if its Sgorr sounds the same as Sgurr.)

here is an avatar for you, you just have to shrink it and remove the butterfly
