Crossing the Strathmore River at Cashel Dhu

Crossing the Strathmore River at Cashel Dhu

Hi,

I'm planning a walk in Sutherland/Assynt and am trying to join-up a few points on the map. There is what looks to be an old river crossing over the Strathmore River at Cashel Dhu, just south of Loch Hope, at approx NC 452 497. Has anyone here crossed the river there or can advise on whether this is doable?

I'd be in the ear at the very end of May, so presumably spate caused snowmelt wouldn't be a problem, but I appreciate that normal conditions can make any river impassible.

Thanks,

Andy

Camped by it once (about 10 years ago). Probably be doable but it would be an up-to-your-thighs wade I would have thought, as it was quite deep and sluggish at that point. I don't know if there are any better crossing points nearby.

If you click on this google maps link and open Streetview at that location, you can get some idea of how the river looks in that vicinity, which is pretty much how I remember it a little further downstream:

Thanks malky. Looks kind of wade-able from streetview, although I'd be very reluctant to go past knee depth. I'd be ultimately heading for Strath Dionard, and was tempted by the open ground to the west of the Strathmore and a visit to Strabeg bothy, but I'll probably take the road south to Glen Golly instead.
