That really makes me want to give it a push...

I desperately wanted to push it over but knowing my luck it would have ended up on my toe!

I have never got upset by a wee pile of stones. I have real life "things" to worry about.
Ruining a landscape, really a wee pile of stones. Do you actually have to find the correct angle and position for them to ruin the landscape. Walk past them a couple of steps or rotate a couple of degrees. You'd be surprised how quickly they no longer ruin the landscape.

I came across this last week in a fantastic location in the alps. Seems like the French are in to it too.

I'm thinking the "landowner" whoever it maybe, is in favour of this and if you knocked them over or dismantled them you may well be breaking the law.

Not new - I have seen swastikas and 1930s dates on one remote beach - left by cruise passengers enjoying a wee bit of strength through joy in the Arctic.

There was a bit of debate about the very subject on one of the popular FB groups a couple of weeks ago. Seems to split opinions. I would rather people didn't build these cairns, but hydro tracks, wind turbines and to a lesser extent irresponsible campers are causing far more damage than some stone piling at honey pot tourist sites.

Sorry to whip up an old thread, but this is so relevant today as it was when this thread was started. And nobody in the thread has addressed the actual issue with these stone stacks.

I actually found this thread searching on Google about them, notably down south they are having issues with them.

The problem isn't how they look, or someone not having any sense of fun, for not appreciating them. The problem is a very real one - they cause massive erosion of the natural habitat. Neist Point was an absolute disgrace when I was up on Skye this year. Hundreds of these stacks. Anywhere you move a stone, the wind gets in and removes habitat.

Sadly, especially up on Skye, its flooded with tourists who's only interest is ticking off a box and getting a nice selfie.
