AE conditions

AE conditions

Looking to do Aonach Eagach at the weekend, weather looking favourable at the moment, and was wondering if anyone knew if were any snow patches remaining that may cause problems.

Thanks in advance

Ice is more likely to be a problem, as the temperatures at night are well below freezing.

Likely fine. It doesn't hold the snow too well. You can get a very general idea from the ski centres webcams although none show the ridge. http://www.winterhighland.info/cams/glencoe/

Nearby Aonach Mor hasn't dropped below freezing since before the weekend.

Aonach Eagach from Bidean nam Bian on Monday.

I'd be feeling very good about getting to do the Aonach Eagach this weekend! Get there nice and early to beat the crowds :)

Sunburn and dehydration are more likely to be a problem. The temperature is above freezing even on summits.

Where do you get this info? Have you been up there recently?

If you're doing the Aonach Eagach from the traditional East to West direction, then the north facing downclimbs are in shade and quite often covered in frost to begin with. Not usually a huge issue, just have to be careful with your footholds. :)

Well, I don't think that is an issue this weekend but I will eat humble pie if the OP reports ice and snow as problems :) .

Did the ring of Steall today and had a good look at it.
It looked like some icy patches and a few pockets of snow dotted around on AE.( east side that would be)
Driving through glencoe you couldn't see any

Apologies, you're correct. I knew Davie was there on Saturday & saw the video on twitter. Putting 2 + 2 together...

Edit to my earlier post.
Nothing on AE.
The snow pockets I saw were on Bidean nam bian and the ridge leading to Stob Coire Sgreamhach ( as I was on there today)

Easy mistake on my part :-|

How was it?? I'm planning on doing it next weekend. Did you see any ice or other glacial hazards as suggested by Caberfeidh?
