no midges in the Monadhliath last week - but that was because of the rain and howling winds!

Will the midges be done the first week of Oct. on the west highland way? I'm starting on the 8th.

They're definitely still about; it hasn't been cold enough yet to knock 'em on the head -- I got bitten quite badly last week near Inversnaid (which is right on the WHW), and again last Fri, down in the Borders.

Plenty of midges near Arnisdale last Monday night when the wind dropped. Deer keds were bad as well during the day in the hills near Morvich - was putting my kit away on Friday night and found a small ked attached to my arm yesterday morning so have double checked my stuff to see if there were any more as I can only assume it got on to me from my rucksack or tent. Thought it was a tic at first as it was so small but under magnifying glass could see it was a tiny ked. Still have a bite mark from it.

Camped near Dalmally on Sunday night no wind, no midges. Camped in Lost valley last night, midges biting. You can always rely on Glencoe to provide midges just when you thought you were safe!
