Long or Short Leachas for the better scrambling?

Long or Short Leachas for the better scrambling?

Postby Dunblane Bagger » Wed May 24, 2017 11:47 am

Hi,

Planning to venture into the wilderness that is the Ben Alder Region this weekend (28/05/17 and 29/05/17) and doing all 9 Munro's over a couple of days with an overnight at Ben Alder Bothy.

Going to ascend The Lancet but can anyone tell me which of the Leachas on Ben Alder's NE face gives the better scramble (short or long) ?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I don't think there is much to choose: both much the same difficulty. The scenery and situations are better than the actual scrambling.

By all accounts Short Leachas is steeper, although I don't think the scrambling is any more awkward as it seems to be a preferred descent, with Long Leachas being the climb...

We did Long Leachas, very enjoyable, unfortunately more scrambly than we had prepared our least experienced group member for and he bailed off the side (easy grassy slope). Probably more scrambly than, e.g. Schoolhouse Ridge on Beinn a'Bheithir.

oh no, I never run!! trip over my own feet
we walked a lot around Glen Affric in early May, no problems with the legs at all, and the pain started a few days later coming down Roseberry Topping!! a shin-splinty type thing.
