Going to Glencoe on Sunday

Going to Glencoe on Sunday

Postby Skyelassie » Fri Sep 22, 2017 5:12 pm

Hi everyone, my fiancé and I are heading through to Glencoe for 1 night. We will try and leave early to get the most out of our short stay and to bag as much walking as possible and take some good pics.

My dream is to bag Buachaille Etive Mor but I hear that experience is needed, I am really not one for scrambling at high heights (fear of falling off!).

Never really done a lot of hillwalking but can you guys recommend good walks for us? Ideally we would have liked to have done

Buachaille Etive Beag - Is possible?
The Lost Valley - heard it can be difficult?
The Pap of Glencoe

We will be sure to visit the Glencoe Lochan, not sure if we will have time to do Glen Etive though!. We would like to see some red deer

The Clachaig Inn was fully booked so the only accommodation that we could secure was The Ballachulish Hotel which looks fab!.

Thanks for your time.

The weather forecast for Sunday is rubbish, I'm afraid, so I think the big hills will be out of consideration.
You could go and see some good waterfalls:

I know, it´s a shame there was nothing for tomorrow which is rubbish as it was to be nice.

Buachaille Etive Beag - There is a good path up it to the beallach where you choose either go right up Stob Dubh or left up Stob Coire Raineach.

The Lost Valley - fantastic and if only going into the Lost Valley- its a bit of a tourist route, however if you go via bidean nam Bian then it is less populated

The whole area is fantastic - maybe thats why i keep going back.

Enjoy it wherever you go

If you are staying in Ballachulish and the weather is bad, the Ice Factor is quite close and has a nice cafe too. Climbing, bouldering and ice climbing is good for a bad weather day.

Hi Skyelassie. I stay in the Glencoe area often, usually camping but I have stayed in the Ballachulish hotel on occasion also and I love it.
Great waterfall suggestions from jmarkb, especially the Steall Falls, a fantastic setting and somewhere that is worth a visit in any weather.
For deer go down the road to the Kings house hotel. There are very often deer to be found about there though they are pretty tame and will stick their heads inside your car if you indicate you might have something interesting on offer. Also down the Glen Etive road there are often deer hanging about the roadside.
All the best :D
