Red faces on Tryfan

Red faces on Tryfan

Postby Sgurr » Wed Oct 18, 2017 5:43 pm

Yesterday we climbed Glyder Fawr and met a guy who had come over from Tryfan. More joking than serious we asked if he had seen any abandoned rucksacks "Yes, three, and sticks". He had seen them on the bwlch. So today we climbed Tryfan again as far as the bwlch and searched the wall between Tryfan and Bristly Ridge with no effect. A large party soon arrived, and we asked them to keep their eyes open in case the rucksacks were elsewhere. They couldn't have been more helpful, and soon we got a phone call saying that they had found them on the col between the south and north peaks, and not to bother climbing back up, they would bring them down.. Everything is intact. So HUGE thanks to the Community Education department of Coleg Lllandrillo, who wanted only a letter of thanks to the Principal to prove that they are being turned into useful citizens, and to the three boys who carried our heavy, and by now sodden rucksacks down. Apologies to the Welsh Nation for tarring them with the suspicion of criminality. And Robin's contact Jason was known to the outdoor instructors who say that he would do anything to help anybody.

Red faces from R. T and me who were all 100% convinced that we had found the right ladder stile, it was one of three, so I suppose the pattern is copied higher up. (Indeed I still have vivid impressions of the stile we searched today as being the correct one) but rucksacks don't have legs, so I guess we must have left them where they were found.

Oh dear :-) That made me laugh, but I'm glad you got your stuff back.
(I'm always scared I won't recognise the place where I left my bag...)

I'm still looking for kit I left and built a wee pile of stones to mark the place, between Loch Cluanie and Loch Garry...

Sgurr - so glad you found your kit.
If it's any consolation we made exactly the same mistake descending Tryfan in the mist a few months ago - thinking at first that the col between N and S peaks was Bwich Tryfan.

Great news, glad you got your stuff back!

I have come down to the first style in poor conditions and nearly navigated down the wrong path, thinking we were at the bwlch sooner than expected, so you're not alone!

Oops! Glad you got your stuff back. There but for the grace...

Did the same going from Carn Eige to Beinn Fhionnlaidh then couldn't find my sac on the return having taken a slightly different path in failing light by mistake. Took me a full half hour or more to locate it and much bad language. Now set a waypoint mark on the gps against such eventualities.

Thought the 2nd trip up TRyfan might have meant the weather wouldn't let us climb Carnedd Llewellyn, but today was OK after a very drizzly start, so I've now done all the Welsh Marilyns, indeed all the mainland Marilyns. Won't manage St. Kilda, so just need another trip to Lewis next year when the island baggers get going again, to do all we are going to do..
