Guides for Skye Cuillins.

I am hoping to finally get round to bagging some Cuillin Munro's next year and was hoping some of you would be able to offer me first hand advice on which guides to potentially use.

Cheers

Hi mamoset.

Paddy is perhaps the most popular guide among WH members, and the one we used.

http://www.blavenguiding.co.uk

We chose to use him after reading rockhopper's report, so a good one to recommend with a decent track record. He won't let you stand on the In Pinn's bolster stone, but he'll let you touch the highest point if you ask nicely. He is an excellent guide.

Just to echo Simon, another vote from me for Paddy McGuire. I was on one of his munro weeks and we were very lucky to manage all twelve in the five days - cheers :)

The two guides myself and my brother have used for Skye are:-

Guy Stephen, Guy Stephen Mountaineering

Donald King, DKClimbing

Both highly recommended and used subsequently on other trips eg Tower Ridge.

Andy at Alba Mountaineering. Friendly non macho type who'll get you across the Cuillin Munros safely.

If so, you could do a lot worse than try Mike Lates of Skye Guides. It is a long time since we used him, but met him outside Broadford co-op last year and he is still guiding (amazingly, he remembered my name...hope leading a then 64 year old female round the Cuillin didn't traumatise him so much he never forgot it.) He was really excellent.

Mike Laing of Snowdonia Mountaineering does guided Cuillin Traverses.

http://www.snowdoniaclimbing.co.uk/About.html

I've taken a couple of courses with him (climbing and winter mountaineering) and found him superb.

I didn't ask him to guide me on the ridge - he'd taught me enough for me to be able to do it solo! - I bumped into him in Glenbrittle with a party he was guiding across the ridge the first time I did the traverse.

Mike is the Skye guru, he wrote the latest guidebook. Nice guy and super enthusiastic about all things cuillin.

Mike Lates/Skye Guides would get my vote every time - their 'Basecamp' accommodation in Broadford is also well worth checking out if you need accommodation.

You've probably seen this list of Skye guides - my understanding is that Paddy McGuire is guiding next year but probably thats the last year, but there's plenty of others that are very good as well - have a great trip.
