2nd Question on Viewranger --- How to install

2nd Question on Viewranger --- How to install

Postby retiredtraveler » Mon Mar 19, 2018 1:43 am

Now that this forum has confirmed that Viewranger would be good for me to have, I don't know the procedure for installing this on my tablet. What is the cost? I see 'points' listed when I go into a hike and click on viewranger. How does one acquire points, or pay with them?
Please bear with me. I've not used any kind of mapping app before other than Google maps.

Thanks for assistance.

The app is free to install and you then buy the maps you want from the shop. (unless you have bought the Premium version which comes with some map credit but I'm assuming you haven't).

"To download a map go to tab menu, Map shop. When the category list appears go into your chosen country. Tap on a map to see a preview, then press Download if you wish to purchase. Click OK to confirm. The maps will download automatically and you'll see a progress panel. Once the map has downloaded press View to see the map. Additional map purchases are charged to your google account."

Ok. I can't post links as as I am new but if you search for Viewranger support in Google it will come up with a knowledgebase and tutorials. It can be a bit confusing to start with and I still get confused but it is a good app.

Robin, I used to have something called Maverick where a purple arrow appeared on the map to show you where you are. Is this the same on Viewranger?

Viewranger has a red circle with a cross it in to pinpoint your location, as you walk an arrow appears to show your direction of travel.
