Fund raising for Mountain Rescue

Fund raising for Mountain Rescue

Postby dogplodder » Mon Apr 02, 2018 4:00 pm

Back in 2010 my walking buddy Moira broke her ankle near Loch Etchachan in the Cairmgorms and was airlifted to hospital.

Moira made a donation to RAF Kinloss at the time of her rescue, but it was always her intention to do something to raise funds for Mountain Rescue so when I suggested doing the WHW for my 70th it seemed an ideal opportunity. I've got a double interest as a few years later another of my friends broke her ankle and was airlifted to hospital - an uncomfortable case of deja vu!

In addition to Moira and Mary's rescues I'm indebted to Mountain Rescue for the recovery of Kath Irvine in 2013 and more recently Neil and Alan Gibson whose family I've known for many years. The work of these brave volunteers can never be fully appreciated and not a single one of us knows when we may need them.

Please consider making a donation no matter how small. Many thanks.

Sorry didn't mean to do that. Noticed a typo and went to edit it but there was only a quote option and no way of deleting original so now it's on twice! :shifty:

I'm still here Moira, more of a lurker than a poster this last while back, still working my way through the Munros slowly but surely.

Terrific Moira. :)
( I've donated although it won't appear under the name I use here )

As you say - we never know when we might need their assistance. I had a tumble recently which has put me out of action for a while, and it could easily have been a lot worse. Good luck to you

Bump.

Mountain Rescue is one of those I always try to stick a few quid in the pot when I see the collection boxes, normally in a hill country pub. I've been involved slightly with a couple of rescues, and the people who provide this service, for free, in their spare time, just because they love the hills and want everybody to get down safely, deserve every bit of support we can give them.

Moira's original target was £1.000 but it went well beyond that with a final amount of £2,574. Mountain Rescue Scotland will be able to do quite a lot with that in what has been an extremely challenging year for them so far.

Grateful thanks to all who contributed!
