Is there a reason why the 1:25,000 maps available for viewing and printing on WH are different?
Well different in that those for using under the GPS heading are very much the same as those I have on my PC from Memory Maps as opposed to those that appear under the Walks/Hills banners ( recommended walks etc.) are very much a downgraded version with many of the major features on the ground useful for walkers to use are just not on the Maps.

When you say the ones under GPS heading do you mean the GPS Planner ? I've looked at the GPS Planner, whch I use a fair bit and it shows OS at 1:25k scale.

Just looked at a walk too and its the same ???

maybe it's something to do with copyright restrictions?

Thanks for that. Yes both use the same scale. I was aware of that.
If I look at my own patch....Glen Feshie.... around the area of Ruigh Aiteachain Bothy and the path up to Lochan nam Bo etc.
On the GPS map all of the features are shown however on the maps for use on the 'Walks' data none of these features are shown.
I guess it could be that for those signing in as members you get the full data but those not signed in as members get the 'basic maps'?

I've just checked and if I pick a Walk, in this case I picked the Lairig Ghru, click on the Route Map and I can zoom in to the full 1:25k scale, just as I can on the GPS Planner.

As I understand it, you have to be registered on the site, which you clearly are as you're posting, and you have to be logged into the site, which again you must be to be able to post. If you are not registered or logged in, you can still view anything but cannot post and the maps will not zoom down to the full 1:25k scale.

Might be worth asking on Help Forum, Paul Webster may know :D

I've had a look at OS maps on the GPS planner and the map attached to the Glen Feshie and Ruigh Aiteachan walk, and they look exactly the same to me.

I do sometimes find that the OS maps on Bing maps and on WH are different - one seems to be updated more quickly than the other.

If you zoom out you get an open access map of some kind, which sometimes shows paths the OS map doesn't, but is missing a lot of detail - and that's all you can get on other people's routes (unless you make them full screen?) or if you're logged out.

I don't know what you can print, though - the OS license rules for looking at something on screen and making your own paper map are possibly quite different.

Logged into the website and looking at the maps via the Walks tab you can zoom them to 1:25000: if you are not logged in you can't, so you see lessdetail.

Ditto with the maps on the GPS tab

That's how it works for me at least.

When in the 'View / print online route map' section, if you are not logged in then you will not be able to see the largest scale map (i.e. OS 1:25k). If you are logged in, then you see it.

Try logging out, go to a route, click on 'View / print online route map'. You don't see the largest scale map. Click on the 'register to view ... whatever' link at bottom left of the map, log in, return to previous page, and now you see the largest scale map.

Does that solve it?

Logged in. Yes, now when I open up to the maximum in the walks section button for maps I have the same amount of detail as on my MM maps. Now I can see the RA Bothy and the path up to the Lochan nam Bo area marked on the map.
I am not a regular user of the WH Maps .....I have the MM maps on the PC and on the Phone so tend to use these on almost a daily basis.
Thanks for this.....I must do more clicking of the buttons on here. :-)
