aonach eagach ridge in 2 weeks

Postby Runci21 » Tue Aug 28, 2018 8:33 am

going to give the aonach eagach ridge a try in 2 weeks time with a mate who is more into scrambling than me, we have booked a guide to take us round and hoping for some descent weather for a change.

has anybody else done this before ? if so what size of ruck sack where you using as pictures I have looked at look to be small packs that are close fitting to the back, I currently use a berghaus 35 litre freeflow which is quite bulky and stands off my back.

any other tips welcomed

Just wear your normal sack, don’t overfill it and use the compression straps on the side, that will be fine. No doubt your guide will help, but it’s good if you can arrange cars at either end to avoid walking back along the side of the road. Hope you get a nice day for it: it’s a great day out.

I guess that there must be several thousand folks on this Forum who have traversed the ridge to reach the two Munro summits? :)

I just used my normal 35 litre daysack.
As long as it fits comfortably and is stable on your back you should be fine as most of the scrambling is along the top of the ridge itself. Rucksack size and shape is more of a consideration when scrambling up gullies where a wider sack might catch on something.

managed to complete aonach eagach ridge on Saturday with the help off ben from west coast mountain guides who took me and a friend across as well as a lady from Edinburgh, (forgot her name, sorry if you are reading this). being only 5 ft 4" and having dodgy knees did not help on some sections of the crazy pinnacles nor did the wet rocks.

we got decent weather for the ridge apart with a few small showers on the final munro and some great views over towards the 3 sisters,.

Hi,

35l rucksack will be fine.

It is an amazing ridge so breathe it all in, and enjoy it to the max.

Hope you get a good day for it !!

Good luck

I did it last Saturday, most definitely the route furthest from my comfort zone to date
Will need more work before in pin
